Providing members with legal advice on personal matters
You may contact any attorney on the list below for your free consultation and to investigate your need for additional services. The free consultation benefit allows you to discuss your problem with an attorney to determine whether you need additional legal services. Do not expect the attorney to draft or review documents during a consultation. If you ask the attorney to provide additional services, such as preparing a will, you will be billed at discounted program rates.
While some legal services are billed by hourly fees, some firms offer flat fee legal services. Flat fee services include, but are not limited to, preparation of simple wills, living wills, real estate closings, uncontested divorces, and traffic violations without trial.
For further information about the NEA/CEA Attorney Referral Programs and information about flat fee service, you may contact CEA Paralegal Linda Reed at Member Legal Services (860-725-6352; LindaR@cea.org) or your local UniServ office.
Note: Rates vary from firm to firm. Make sure you have an agreed-upon rate and understand the fee structure before you authorize commencement of work. Some covered services may be providedat a flat rate as opposed to an hourly rate basis. A law firm's flat rates may vary, however, if you live outside of that firm's normal geographic area of practice. Finally, all listed law firms may not provide services in every one of the five "core" areas. See the Attorney Referral Program for more information.
